University of California San Diego (UCSD) Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) Deploys RightPatient® Patient Safety and Data Integrity System
Implemented for Patient Safety to Ensure Accurate Identification Prior to Delivery of Cancer Treatment
Atlanta, GA (October 14, 2014) – M2SYS Technology today announced that the Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center has implemented a customized version of the RightPatient® patient identification solution to accurately identify patients as a safety precaution prior to receiving radiation treatment. RightPatient® is the industry’s most advanced patient identity management and data integrity platform designed to improve patient safety by ensuring accurate care delivery, regardless of the setting. The RMAS department selected iris recognition among the various forms of biometrics that RightPatient® supports.
Committed to offering the safest environment possible for patients who are receiving potentially lethal radiation treatments if administered incorrectly, the RMAS department sought a solution that proactively prevented identification errors that could jeopardize patient safety. Iris biometrics offers a more hygienic environment for cancer treatment patients. Once enrolled, patients can be unambiguously identified for the rest of their life due to the fact that the human iris pattern is formed at 10 months of age and stays the same throughout a patient’s life. RightPatient® continues to be met with positive feedback from patients at every hospital where it is deployed who understand its significance to protect their identity and ensure their safety and medical data integrity is maintained.
The need to protect patient safety is a critical element of any healthcare organization’s strategy, especially in medication and treatment distribution environments that could result in toxic, potentially deadly effects if not accurately administered. RightPatient® offers the RMAS department a versatile patient identification platform using non-contact iris biometrics, which helps support patient safety and hospital infection control protocols.
“It’s gratifying to see our RightPatient® patient identity management and medical data integrity platform deployed in such a wide variety of healthcare settings to protect patient safety and ensure accurate care delivery,” said Michael Trader, Co-Founder and President of RightPatient. “UCSD is an important example of how RightPatient® is a critical element for patient safety initiatives to ensure proper care administration in any environment.”
